Volkswagen Karmann Ghia

How To Hotrod Volkswagen Engines
by Bill Fisher

The original, and arguably the best book on how to hop up your VW.

How To Rebuild Your Volkswagen Air-Cooled Engine
by Tom Wilson

Everything the manual doesn't tell you is laid out here in terms the layman can understand.

Aircooled VW Engine Interchange Manual
by Keith Seume

More of a buyer's guide to aftermarket parts than an actual interchange guide, this is an excellent book for the novice who is interested in developing engine performance.

VW Performance Tuning
by Eric Jorgensen.
ISBN: 0-89287-223-3

Published originally in 1973, it went into at least three printings of a second edition as late as 1979. What makes this book so good is it not only explains what to do, but why you should do it, the down-sides of doing it and what it will cost (in 1970s dollars). At the very least it'll allow you to make informed choices.

Karmann Ghia Coupes and Cabriolets

by Malcolm Bobbitt

o.r. =$25.00  c.v.= still available new
For those of you familiar with Bobbitt's earlier title, the very excellent Volkswagen Karmann Ghia, you should regard this as a revised and condensed version of that book. Basically it leaves out the Beetle Cabriolet stuff and adds some historical pictures he's come across in the meantime.
It has chapters on Ghia history, evolution, inspection and purchase, dealing with faults, and an appendix with production figures, specifications, colors etc.
Good book for people looking for their first Karmann Ghia.

Volkswagen: Then, Now, and Forever

by Terry Schuler

o.r. = $30.00 c.v. = still available new

Terry Shuler's "Volkswagen Then, Now and Forever" is a comprehensive look at the original Beetle. In addition to its history, there are chapters devoted to and written by key people from those involved in testing the original prototypes to advertising. Of course, detailed information is provided about Porsche, Hitler and their vision and development of the "people's car." Chapters on the car itself are broken down by year. Many pictures including those of sales literature, manuals and variations of the cars. Also includes history of the Bus, Karmann Ghia and others. If you're only going to buy one book on Volkswagen's history, this should be it.
