My Karmann Ghias

Currently (March 2004) I have two Karmann Ghias.

1402308704 is my 1970 Coupe that I purchased in December 1989. It was largely disassembled in the winter of 1995 with the intent of restoring it, which never happened. It has been in dry storage since then, while I collect all the body sheet metal. I'll either restore it properly over the next several decades, or simply weld in new sheet metal to repair the rust and sell it as a good shell and chassis. It is equipped with an AE code dual-port 1600 that I may or may not keep. Originally L20E Signal Orange, this car was stripped down to bare metal and shot with storage primer.

1490863903 - 1969 Coupe

1490863903 is my 1969 Coupe that I purchased in December 1999. An import from Santa Rosa, CA when I bought it, it still had it's black California plates and a pink slip. I had the seller have it inspected and registered in BC as a condition of sale. In April 2000 the car was involved in a collision and nearly written off. Thanks to some great work by Steveston Collision, the car lives on. Upon leaving the collision ship it had new bumper chrome all around, but the repair cost limit would not allow for a new paint job, so I shot it with Plastikote Hot Rod black, which it still wears today. The original color was L544 Cherry Red. The previous owner states that the engine installed is a factory Mexican 1500 single-port from the early 90's with about 25,000 miles on it. It has no engine number on the rear and I have yet to really examine the block, but it runs perfectly in any event, so I'm not too concerned about it's origins.
